Hosea, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel: God, Romance, and Rape
Hosea, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel all use romance as a metaphor for God’s relationship with Israel. This romance sometimes turns violent as questions of jealousy and anger surface.
As with other metaphors for the relationship of humanity with the divine, this one has destructive implications.
What do we do with this language? How has it influenced Christian views of love, romance, jealousy, and vulnerability? What impact can it have for victims of spouse abuse?
